Choi Hyun Wook Profile: Actor Praised by Choi Min Sik

At the production presentation for the Netflix original series 'The Boy at the End of the Line,' actor Choi Min-sik revealed the behind-the-scenes story of casting junior actor Choi Hyun-wook. Regarding his direct participation in the audition for the role of Lee Kang, Choi Min-sik explained, "I wanted to see him in person. I couldn't get a feel for him from profile pictures or videos, so I went to the site." He revealed that he felt drawn to Choi Hyun-wook's "eyes that you can't read" and suggested they have a meal together. Choi Min-sik added, "It was the director's decision. We narrowed down our opinions together with the director and producers" regarding Choi Hyun-wook's casting as Lee Kang.

Choi Hyun-wook recalled the time, saying he was nervous acting in front of Choi Min-sik, whom he had only seen on screen, but he did his best as he had prepared. Praising Choi Hyun-wook's acting, Choi Min-sik said, "Looking back, I am very satisfied. I am grateful and proud of junior actor Choi Hyun-wook." 'The Boy at the End of the Line' is a suspense drama that tells the story of Heo Mun-oh (played by Choi Min-sik), a failed writer and Korean literature professor, who discovers the genius of Lee Kang (played by Choi Hyun-wook), a boy who sits at the very back of the lecture hall, and becomes obsessed with his writing.

Director Kim Gyu-tae expressed his respect for Choi Min-sik, saying, "He makes the atmosphere on set fun and cheerful, and he has the pure yet detached demeanor of an adult." Regarding Choi Hyun-wook, he commented, "He is a character with a pure yet subtly dual charm, and Hyun-wook was the perfect fit. His eyes themselves seem to hold suspense." Choi Min-sik joked about having a meal with Choi Hyun-wook after his audition, saying, "Hyun-wook offered to pay for the meal," and added that Choi Hyun-wook's agency likely covered the cost.

Choi Min-sik described the character Heo Mun-oh as "a person who hides the scars of failure as a writer and a long-held inferiority complex," explaining, "He reaches a turning point upon seeing Lee Kang's writing and becomes obsessed." Choi Hyun-wook introduced the character Lee Kang as "a student who sits with an inscrutable expression and writes genius-level prose." Praising Choi Hyun-wook's acting ability, Choi Min-sik said, "He has excellent comprehension, accurately understands the director's directions and interpretation of the work, and expresses it physically." He added, "Age doesn't matter. I need to stay sharp."

Choi Min-sik stated that working with Choi Hyun-wook had a positive impact on him as well, saying, "I wonder if I acted like that when I was his age." He lauded Choi Hyun-wook as "an actor who delivered 200% of his part," expressing his affection by saying, "Regardless of seniority, we are all fellow actors in front of the camera.
