MBC's special series 'A Shop for Killers Season 1' recorded a viewership rating of 1.7% for its first episode. This is a 3.3 percentage point drop from the final episode rating of its predecessor, 'The 50/50 Show,' which was 5.0%. SBS's 'Chief Detective 1958,' starring So Ji-sub, aired at the same time and recorded a viewership rating of 18.8%, showing a gap of about 11 times.

'A Shop for Killers Season 1' is an action drama based on the novel 'The Killer's Shopping Mall' by Kang Ji-young. It depicts the survival story of niece Jeong Ji-an (played by Kim Hye-jun), who becomes the target of killers due to a suspicious shopping mall left behind by her uncle Jeong Jin-man (played by Lee Dong-wook).

The first episode depicted Jeong Ji-an, left alone after Jeong Jin-man's sudden death, confronting the existence of a mysterious shopping mall, and her ordinary life beginning to shake. In the second episode, to be aired on the 4th, the threat against Ji-an will become more concrete, and she will confront the identity of the shopping mall Jin-man left behind, his past, and traces of the world he was involved in. Ji-an, suddenly targeted, will be put to the test for survival amidst confusion, where she has little time to grasp the situation and it is difficult to distinguish between those she can trust and those she should suspect.

The appearance of Bae Jeong-min (played by Park Ji-bin), Ji-an's classmate, adds tension to the drama. Jeong-min plays a role in tracking the reality of the shopping mall alongside Ji-an, unraveling clues to the case. However, the motives of the characters gathering around Ji-an after Jin-man's death are unclear, placing Ji-an in a situation where she must rely on someone while also making her own judgments.
