BTS V Praised by The New York Times

BTS member V has received high praise from The New York Times, being called "the most passionate and powerful vocalist." BTS released their fifth full-length album, 'ARIRANG,' on the 20th and unveiled the new song performances for the first time the following day at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. The comeback live broadcast, streamed on Netflix, ranked number one in 77 countries.

Regarding the album, The New York Times commented, "K-pop superstars BTS's new album 'ARIRANG' carried immense commercial expectations and showcased an artistic experimental spirit." They added, "Having reunited after completing their military service, BTS presents a more confident and unique image than before," and described the album's tracks as "raw, intense, pulsating, whimsical, and at times, frenetically overwhelming."

While The New York Times assessed, "Overall, 'ARIRANG' is much closer to a showcase for the rappers than the vocalists," they also highlighted V's distinct presence as a vocalist, stating, "Among the vocalists, V delivers the most passionate and powerful voice."

On this album, V elevated the mood of each track with his diverse vocal tones, creating a significant impact at the Gwanghwamun Square concert. With his solidified vocals, he showcased techniques ranging from rock/metal growls to soft low notes, and transitions between true and falsetto in his high notes. He demonstrated a wide vocal range with his baritone low notes, enriching BTS's music with various vocal techniques such as falsetto, belting, and vibrato.

American publication Rolling Stone, in an article titled "Proving a Perfect Comeback with 'ARIRANG'," evaluated the album as "a blockbuster work that expands into new musical territory while emphasizing the group's identity and Korean roots." They also added, "The seven distinct voices have become stronger than ever." American NPR analyzed, "'ARIRANG' is a work that shows BTS has built its unique musical texture."
