Hidden Singer 8 Turtleman Episode: All Stars Gather

The 8th episode of JTBC's 'Hidden Singer 8' featured a tribute to the late Turtleman, the leader of the group Geobuk-i. On this episode, Geobuk-i members Geumbi and Jii, along with Turtleman's older brother, appeared to watch the competition against impersonators boasting legendary levels of synchronization.

In the second round, with the mission song 'Why Is This Happening,' the impersonators surprised the judges with their high synchronization with Turtleman. After the first half of the song, the celebrity judges voted for the number they thought sounded most like Turtleman, but all numbers except for number 1 received an even distribution of votes. As the second half began and the hidden stage opened, comedian Moon Se-yoon appeared as impersonator number 6, surprising everyone.

For the Turtleman (Lim Sung-hoon) episode, which marks the 18th anniversary of his death, Geobuk-i members Jii and Geumbi participated as hidden judges. The Turtleman episode always receives a large number of applications each season, and this year in particular, there was an overwhelming surge in impersonator submissions and casting requests. Jii expressed her delight, saying Turtleman would have enjoyed coming to broadcasting stations, and Geumbi hoped it would be a joyful time remembering Turtleman, who was a singer that gave people dreams and hope.

Jii and Geumbi showed confidence in finding Turtleman's real voice. Jii stated she knew everything about Turtleman because they spent so much time together, and Geumbi mentioned Turtleman's slightly short speech, a characteristic. Geumbi also revealed Turtleman's strict rule of never lip-syncing during their seven years of activities and insisting on live performances even in bad weather. This made the voices extracted from live performances, rather than studio recordings, even more confusing for the impersonators.

Jii and Geumbi took to the stage themselves, singing along with the impersonators and delivering both touching and entertaining moments. Turtleman's older brother, who was also present as a judge, admitted he found it difficult, saying, "They all sound like Sung-hoon." 'Hidden Singer 8' is a new concept music program where Korea's representative singers compete against impersonators who perfectly replicate their voices, and it airs every Tuesday at 8:50 PM.
