Kim Seui Arrested for Defaming Kim Soo Hyun

Kim Se-ui, the head of the YouTube channel "Garo Sero Institute" (Gaseyeon), has had an arrest warrant requested against him for allegedly spreading false information about actor Kim Soo-hyun. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office requested the arrest warrant for Kim, following an earlier application by the Seoul Gangnam Police Station for an arrest warrant on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes (filming/distributing with cameras, etc.) and defamation.

Kim Se-ui is accused of spreading false information through YouTube broadcasts, including claims that pressure from Kim Soo-hyun's side to repay debt was a factor in the death of actress Kim Sae-ron. Additionally, charges were applied for defaming Kim Soo-hyun by creating and distributing a recorded file that manipulated Kim Sae-ron's voice using generative artificial intelligence (AI).

A pre-arrest investigation (warrant examination) for Kim Se-ui is scheduled to be held at the Seoul Central District Court on the 26th at 10:30 AM.

Last May, Kim Se-ui held a press conference with Kim Sae-ron's bereaved family and released a transcript claiming that "Kim Soo-hyun dated Kim Sae-ron since she was a minor." In response, Kim Soo-hyun's side claimed the transcript was manipulated by AI and sued Kim Se-ui for defamation. The police, who investigated the case, requested the National Forensic Service to analyze the transcript, and the NIFS reportedly concluded in November of last year that it was "impossible to determine" whether it was manipulated by AI.

In relation to this, Kim Soo-hyun's side filed a complaint against Kim Se-ui and others for defamation and threats, stating that Kim Se-ui broadcasted photos of Kim Soo-hyun's body without filtering. They argued that these photos "are photos that can cause sexual shame and should not be made public, nor is there any reason for them to be."
