In the first broadcast, Kim Gwan-cheol displayed a clashing chemistry with Sergeant Yoon Dong-hyun. Upon seeing mashed braised potatoes during meal distribution, he unleashed sharp remarks, saying, “Is this potato, or was it once a potato? Anyone seeing this would think someone chewed it up and spat it out.” He also attempted to assert dominance over the new recruit Kang Sung-jae, asking, “Didn’t you know military life is tough?”

Kang Ha-kyung completed the character of Kim Gwan-cheol, who is annoying yet lovable, with his sly acting. While criticizing Yoon Dong-hyun’s cooking with remarks like, “It’s not a birthday meal, it’s a fatal wound if you eat it,” he added laughter with his realistic portrayal. Furthermore, in an imagined scene where he gets hit by a sausage explosion after eating stir-fried sausages, he elicited bursts of laughter by screaming for his life.
Kim Gwan-cheol teased Yoon Dong-hyun by relaying the news that the company commander was taking Kang Sung-jae to the TOD. He sternly warned the soldiers who were enjoying the bean sprout soup more than usual, saying, “I hate it most in the world when people play with food,” but after tasting the soup himself, he brought laughter with a surprising reversal, snatching a food tray and devouring it with gusto. Kang Ha-kyung added to the character’s charm by wittily depicting Kim Gwan-cheol regaining his senses with a bean sprout in his mouth.
