New Release Dominates Pre-Sale Ticket Rankings

On the weekend of March 15th, the Korean film "The King and the Man" dominated the box office, drawing 478,171 viewers and securing the undisputed first place. With a cumulative audience exceeding 13.46 million, it continues to compete for a top spot in the all-time Korean film box office rankings. A significant gap separated it from the second-place animation "Hoppers" and the third-place occult horror film "Samakdo," highlighting Korean films' dominance at the top of the box office while foreign films had limited influence.

"The King and the Man" maintained its audience appeal even after surpassing 10 million viewers, recording a screen efficiency of 37.0%. The film, a historical drama depicting the tragic history of King Danjong after the Gye-yu Jeongnan (literary purge), is analyzed to have resonated with audiences through its narrative that focuses on the characters' emotions and human tragedy centered around actual historical events. Lead actor Yoo Hae-jin's profound yet human performance, and Park Ji-hoon's delicate portrayal of despair and anguish, heightened the film's immersion.

Looking at the audience trends over the past eight days, there is a clear difference between weekends and weekdays, with weekend audiences remaining in the 600,000 range, indicating sustained demand at the theaters. "The King and the Man" has consistently secured over 150,000 viewers even on weekdays, continuing its long-running box office success. A market structure dominated by a single hit film has been maintained, with a clear concentration of audiences on "The King and the Man."

In terms of real-time advance ticket sales, "Project Hail Mary," scheduled for release on March 18th, showed high interest, ranking first with 36.9%. The existing hit film "The King and the Man" maintained its influence, ranking second with 33.5%. While the box office landscape may shift with the release of new films, the current analysis suggests that "The King and the Man's" box office momentum is likely to continue.
