Shin Sung-woo (Yoo Yeon-seok), who had been arrested as a murder suspect, was released due to insufficient evidence. Afterward, he made a bold move to catch the real culprit in the murder of a genius scientist. Despite the pleas of his mother, Park Kyung-hwa (Kim Mi-kyung), who worried about her son's safety, he solidified his resolve as a lawyer for ghosts, stating, "Listening to the stories of wronged souls is more precious than money or fame."

Shin Sung-woo and his deceased client, Jeon Sang-ho, suspected the victim's father-in-law, Kim Tae-joon (Kim Hong-pa), the research institute director, as the real culprit. However, the truth was revealed in the visiting room. Jeon Sang-ho, possessing Shin Sung-woo's body, spoke a private love code to his wife, Kim Soo-jung (Jung Ga-hee). Kim Soo-jung broke down and confessed to the murder. Her reason for confessing was not that her father was the real killer, but because he was the only one who could stay by her mother's (Park Hee-soon) side, who was suffering from a rare disease.

Prosecutor Han Na-hyun (Lee Som) focused on the fact that Shin Sung-woo knew the exact crime scene, deciding to use him as a 'key player' in solving the case. Han Na-hyun apologized to Shin Sung-woo, joined forces with him, and began reconstructing the case. They speculated that the reason Kim Soo-jung slept soundly on the day of the crime was due to 'chamomile tea' gifted by Gu Hyo-joong (Um Ji-won), a senior researcher at the institute. Furthermore, based on his demeanor during questioning and the autopsy report, they identified Gu Hyo-joong, who had severe myopia, as a prime suspect.

Through Shin Sung-woo, Jeon Sang-ho added information that he had a past unrequited love for Kim Soo-jung and was well aware of the institute's internal affairs. The suspicion deepened as it was revealed that animal cloning, Gu Hyo-joong's research field, was halted, and after Jeon Sang-ho's death, Kim Tae-joon resigned, allowing Gu Hyo-joong to become the next director. Shin Sung-woo and Jeon Sang-ho identified a 'metal rod' that Gu Hyo-joong frequently used as a likely murder weapon. However, the situation made it difficult to identify the actual murder weapon, as there were numerous metal rods in the institute's animal facility.
