Byeon Woo Seok's First Public Appearance After Apology

Actor Byun Woo-seok made his first public appearance since apologizing for the historical distortion controversy in 'The 21st Century Grand Prince's Wife'. He attended the production presentation for the Netflix variety show 'Yoo Jae-suk Camp' held at JW Marriott Dongdaemun in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 19th.

This public appearance is his first since the MBC drama 'The 21st Century Grand Prince's Wife' concluded and following his apology for the historical distortion controversy. Although 'The 21st Century Grand Prince's Wife' ended with its highest viewership rating of 13.8%, it faced criticism for historical distortion in episode 11, such as officials shouting 'Cheonse' instead of 'Manse' during Prince Ian's (played by Byun Woo-seok) enthronement ceremony, and the king wearing a nine-jeweled crown instead of the twelve-jeweled crown worn by the emperor of a sovereign nation.

Regarding this, Byun Woo-seok apologized, stating, "I lacked consideration for the historical context and meaning within the work, and how it might be perceived by the viewers." He added, "As an actor, I have once again deeply realized the need to examine and consider not only my acting but also the message and context of the work with greater responsibility. I will become an actor who approaches projects with a more cautious and in-depth attitude in the future."

At his first public appearance after the apology, Byun Woo-seok presented a casual yet sophisticated style by matching a charcoal gray suit with a blue shirt and tie. Regarding his appearance on 'Yoo Jae-suk Camp,' he said, "Fans seem to like seeing my daily life, and I thought 'Yoo Jae-suk Camp' was a variety show where I could show that side of myself. I was scared and excited, but I decided to take on the challenge with the thought that I had to try it."

Byun Woo-seok stated, "My philosophy in life is to do my best in every moment. I did my best on 'Yoo Jae-suk Camp' as well, and I hope it will be well-received." He reiterated, "​I am truly sorry about the historical distortion controversy." The Netflix variety show 'Yoo Jae-suk Camp' is scheduled to be released on the 26th.
