Director Jang Hang-jun's "The Roundup" Surpasses 5 Million Viewers

The film "The King and the Man" surpassed 5 million cumulative viewers in just 18 days of its release, becoming the first film of 2026 to reach this milestone. This is a faster pace than the 10-million-viewer film "King and the Clown" and matches the box office speed of "Masquerade."

Regarding the news of surpassing 5 million viewers, director Jang Hang-jun stated, "I am very happy to hear such good news consecutively while doing stage greetings. I am relieved that the actors and staff who worked together are also happy."

The film's popularity is leading to an increase in tourists visiting Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, the actual place of King Danjong's exile. Director Jang said, "It is fortunate that your visit to Yeongwol itself shows affection and interest in the movie."

He cited "comments like 'It captured the era well' or 'The actors' performances are epic'" as memorable reactions.

Recently, a message from director Jang discussing a European trip with staff led to speculation about a reward vacation. However, it was revealed that this was a rest trip with the directing staff after the filming concluded. Director Jang explained that he had already traveled to Western Europe with the staff after filming.
