Shim Soo Bong Addresses Obscenity Controversy
Singer Shim Soo-bong revealed her feelings about the obscenity controversy surrounding her hit song "A Man is a Boat, a Woman is a Harbor." On the first broadcast of JTBC's "Hidden Singer 8," Shim Soo-bong explained the background of the song's creation and shared her inner thoughts on the controversy.
Shim Soo-bong stated that "A Man is a Boat, a Woman is a Harbor" was inspired by the story of a flower arrangement teacher whose husband was an overseas sailor. She explained that after witnessing a couple, who had been apart for a long time, share a brief kiss, she created the self-composed song with the meaning that the man goes by boat and the woman waits at the harbor.
However, the song was embroiled in controversy at the time of its release, being misunderstood as obscene due to its metaphorical lyrics. Shim Soo-bong expressed her past distress, saying, "Even until recently, after the song was released, I received a lot of criticism. I couldn't understand why I was being criticized and was very hurt." Song Eun-yi added that she remembered the media reporting it as an obscene song before the background of its creation was known.
Meanwhile, on this day's "Hidden Singer 8," Shim Soo-bong won the final round and delivered an emotional acceptance speech. Impersonator Choi Yeon-hwa also expressed her honor in being with Shim Soo-bong, her lifelong idol.
