Jo Jin Woong Disappears After Retirement Rumors
News has emerged about the current situation of actor Cho Jin-woong, who announced his retirement following controversy over his past as a juvenile offender. He has also been removed from the 2026 lineup for the tvN drama 'Signal 2,' which he was scheduled to appear in, creating uncertainty about its release schedule.
Reporter Kang Il-hong of 'The Fact' YouTube channel reported that Cho Jin-woong's whereabouts have been largely unknown since his retirement, and he has cut off contact with close acquaintances. Within and outside the film industry, there are also reports that he hopes to be quietly forgotten over time, having acknowledged his past.
Cho Jin-woong was previously embroiled in controversy when his juvenile record, which included vehicle theft, unlicensed driving, and involvement in sexual assault, was revealed. At the time, his agency confirmed that he had engaged in wrongdoings as a minor but explained that it was difficult to ascertain the details after more than 30 years and that legal proceedings had concluded. Cho Jin-woong stated, "I bow my head and apologize for disappointing you with past unpleasant incidents. I humbly accept all criticism and will cease all activities as of today, putting an end to my acting career," announcing his retirement.
This situation is also affecting the production of 'Signal 2.' 'Signal 2' is the sequel to the 2016 drama 'Signal,' and it was an anticipated project where Cho Jin-woong was slated to play a main character alongside Kim Hye-soo and Lee Je-hoon. However, following the lead actor's retirement announcement, there are observations that uncertainty has grown regarding the production direction and release date. tvN has taken a cautious stance, stating, "We are looking for the optimal solution to protect the value of the work." Consequently, the release schedule for 'Signal 2' is currently unclear.
