Himalayan Expedition Launch Ceremony Canceled

The launch ceremony for the entertainment program 'Praying from the Himalayas,' planned to wish for the Korean national team's advancement to the quarterfinals of the 2026 North, Central American, and Caribbean World Cup, was canceled due to JTBC's unilateral notification of schedule cancellation. The expedition team claimed that JTBC first proposed the broadcast but then suddenly informed them that scheduling was impossible and demanded a change in cast members.

The expedition team stated that they refused the broadcaster's request to "replace the cast because the current cast is weak and therefore no advertisements will be attached," and that the scheduling was canceled as a result. Expedition leader Lee Jun-hoon defended the team members, saying, "Our goal was the broadcast, not the appearance fees, and we participated after rearranging our other schedules."

However, JTBC countered, stating, "This program has no relation to JTBC whatsoever," and "The production company first requested scheduling, and we reviewed it and informed them that it was impossible, and that's all." JTBC holds exclusive broadcasting rights for the Olympics and World Cups, including the 2026 North, Central American, and Caribbean World Cup.

On the day of the launch ceremony, the event was delayed due to cast members' tardiness and seclusion in the waiting room, and eventually, expedition leader Lee Jun-hoon announced the cancellation of the launch ceremony. The expedition team held an emergency meeting for about an hour and showed their determination to proceed with the project despite the news of the broadcast cancellation.

'Praying from the Himalayas' is a project that has been planned since August of last year and prepared for about six months, with the goal of climbing to the Kangchenjunga Base Camp in the Himalayas this coming April. The expedition team plans to hold a ceremony at an altitude of approximately 4,600 meters to pray for the national team's advancement to the World Cup quarterfinals.
