Kim Sejeong Cast as Lead in 'The Girl Who Became Queen'

Singer and actress Kim Se-jeong is attempting a new transformation by choosing '​High School Queen' as her next project. According to The Fact's investigation, Kim Se-jeong has been cast as the protagonist in the new drama 'High School Queen,' and preparations for the production and broadcasting schedule are currently under discussion.

'High School Queen' is based on a popular Naver webtoon of the same name. The story follows Kim Cheong-ha, a queen who was the greatest swordswoman in the Joseon Dynasty, as she is reincarnated into the body of a modern high school student named Park Da-jin. The original work was widely loved for its thrilling action, where she punishes school bullies using Joseon martial arts.

The drama is expected to enhance the romantic elements while preserving the thrilling action of the original work. It will present an expanded story through a narrative that spans across the past Joseon era and the present, with Studio Dragon in charge of planning and development to ensure high quality. Furthermore, it is known that IP expansion into movies and animations is also being considered for the future.

Kim Se-jeong is set to play Kim Cheong-ha, who enters the body of modern high school student Park Da-jin, showcasing various unexpected charms. While several actresses, including Shin Ye-eun, were considered for the lead role, Kim Se-jeong was ultimately chosen.

Kim Se-jeong solidified her position as a singer after debuting as a member of I.O.I through 'Produce 101' in 2016 and her activities with Gugudan. She has since expanded her acting career by appearing in dramas such as 'School 2017', 'The Uncanny Counter', 'Business Proposal', 'Today's Webtoon', and 'The Romance of the Drunk'. Last year, she further broadened her acting spectrum by challenging historical drama acting in the MBC drama '​The Moon That Rises in the River'.
