Park Soo-hong's lawsuit against his brother ends after 5 years

Broadcaster Park Soo-hong expressed his feelings, saying "Thank you for your concern," as he concluded a five-year embezzlement lawsuit with his brother and sister-in-law. He conveyed his gratitude for the long-standing interest and support, and apologized for not being able to speak at length about family matters.

The Supreme Court ruled in the final appeal trial for Park Soo-hong's brother, Park, and sister-in-law, Lee, stating, "We dismiss the defendant's appeal," upholding the second trial's sentence of 3 years and 6 months imprisonment with a suspended sentence.

The embezzlement lawsuit involving Park Soo-hong's brother and sister-in-law began in 2021 with a revealing online comment, and the controversy escalated with allegations of 'embezzlement of 10 billion won in appearance fees,' along with verbal abuse from his father and slander from his sister-in-law. Park Soo-hong received the Supreme Court's verdict after approximately four years of legal battles.

Park Soo-hong testified as a witness in the first and appellate trials, stating, "I felt wronged seeing my assets being used arbitrarily just because it was a family company," and claimed that his brother and sister-in-law were short 2 billion won in funds accumulated over four years. He also revealed that he was told, "​It's financial management for you," and that he had no real estate in his name.

The prosecution determined that the couple, Park and his wife, embezzled a total of 6.17 billion won by inflating labor costs and misappropriating company funds while operating an entertainment agency. While initially identifying 2.1 billion won, further investigation revealed an additional 4 billion won. However, the portion related to life insurance benefits and 2.9 billion won in personal damages, where the application of the relative's privilege rule was debated, were deemed difficult to establish as crimes or concluded as solitary offenses.
