Shin Chul, Cheori & Mi Ae Band Formation Secrets

Musician Shin Cheol will appear on KBS1's 'Song Documentary Back to the Music Season 2' to look back on his music career and his contributions to Korean popular music history. Shin Cheol began to dream of becoming a DJ after seeing one at a nightclub in his second year of high school. He left home with only 500 won to audition at nightclubs, staying in cheap inns with other DJs. He entered the DJ scene as an assistant to the famous DJ 'Kkandori Hyung'. Within a year of leaving home, he became a main DJ and formed the dance duo 'Boom Boom' with DJ Lee Jeong-hyo.

In 1989, Shin Cheol created Korea's first remix album with Nami and Boom Boom's 'Indian Doll', introducing a new trend to the music industry. Shin Cheol recognized the potential of 'Indian Doll', originally a synth-pop trot song, as a dance track and proposed a remix, which garnered significant attention. However, Shin Cheol was heartbroken by being referred to only as 'Nami's backup dancer' and ended his activities during his peak popularity.

Later, Shin Cheol's senses were reawakened after seeing Seo Taiji and Boys debut in 1992, and he began searching for a female singer who could perform both singing and dancing. He discovered Mi-ae, MBC's top dancer, but confessed that he was rejected by her a remarkable seven times. The resulting duo, 'Cheol-i and Mi-ae', shook the music scene with their hit song 'Why Are You?', and Mi-ae's dazzling dance, Shin Cheol's rap, and the 'scrubbing dance' received nationwide love.

After the success of 'Nami and Boom Boom' and 'Cheol-i and Mi-ae', Shin Cheol expanded his activities as a producer, discovering junior artists like DJ DOC, CoCo, and Jay. However, deep feelings of loss followed his brilliant success, and after stepping away from production, he continued his career as a radio DJ and producer. Recently, he participated in Kim Yeon-ja's hit song 'Amor Fati', and he plans to share the meaning behind 'Amor Fati', to which he contributed lyrics, and his musical philosophy on the broadcast.

Shin Cheol is recognized as a musician ahead of his time for attempting Korea's first remix album and first sampling song. His candid story and live performance will be revealed on KBS1's 'Song Documentary Back to the Music Season 2' on the 28th at 11:10 PM.
