So Ji-sub's 'Lawless Middle-Aged' Role: A New K-drama Transformation

Actor So Ji-sub transforms into a "lawless middle-aged man" in SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama, 'Chief Kim'. 'Chief Kim' is a father's universe revenge action drama about the most ordinary dad in the world becoming the most dangerous man to fight to get his only daughter back.

The first episode of 'Chief Kim', which aired on the 26th, recorded a nationwide viewership rating of 9.5% and 9.8% in the Seoul metropolitan area, according to Nielsen Korea, with the highest momentary rating soaring to 11.3%. This not only ranked first in its time slot but also first among mini-series for the week, marking a successful start by achieving the highest premiere viewership rating among mini-series aired this year. It also showed strength in the 2049 demographic, drawing broad interest.

The drama depicts the process of Chief Kim (So Ji-sub), who lives as an ordinary accounting team manager at a bank, confronting his hidden past to protect his only daughter, Kim Min-ji. Chief Kim was willing to endure anything for his daughter, but Min-ji reveals her hurt by saying, "Why aren't you on my side?" and leaves home.

To find the missing Min-ji, Chief Kim tracks the location where his daughter was called to the back gate of the school and faces a shocking truth at the scene. At the climax, Chief Kim's hidden identity is revealed: he was a legendary special agent known by the codename 66 in the past. With a changed gaze the moment he took off his glasses and overwhelming action, he subdued his opponents, raising expectations for the next episode.

In the second episode, airing on the 27th, Chief Kim will be shown taking out his hidden 'mysterious 007 bag' and launching a 'merciless assault' to find his missing daughter. Armed with a black suit and gloves, Chief Kim will showcase '​monster action' by quickly subduing unidentified assailants in a deserted alley.
