Director Kim Si-jung, The Trot 2.0 Era
The trot audition program MBN's 'Muyeong Jeonseol' (Legend of the Unknown) is gaining attention with its rising viewership ratings. Kim Si-jung, the Head of Production, planned the program with a fresh perspective, free from preconceived notions about trot music.
Over seven months, Director Kim personally interviewed over 2,200 applicants out of more than 4,000 who applied, seeking "authentic" voices. He emphasized that "authenticity, the ability to express one's life through song with sincerity" is more important than perfect technique.
"I was confident that the raw yet earnest voices of our neighbors, like delivery drivers and bus drivers, would have the power to move viewers' hearts."

'Muyeong Jeonseol' borrows the class system from the movie 'Snowpiercer' to provide catharsis by overcoming reality through skill and authenticity. Director Kim stated that the program's essence is "giving a name to the 'unknown' and providing an opportunity for the 'famous' to return to the stage, thereby giving them courage."

Excluding the "exaggerated reactions" and "forced emotional appeals" of existing auditions, the program uses "editing with space" to guide viewers into immersing themselves in the contestants' narratives. The judging panel is also diverse, going beyond trot singers to include actors, comedians, and K-pop artists, broadening the perspective on trot music.
"We hope viewers will see this program not as a competition, but as a 'human drama'."
Director Kim's ultimate goal is the globalization of trot music. He is confident that the "heartfelt K-narrative" inherent in trot can resonate with the universal emotions of people worldwide, aiming to usher in a 'Trot 2.0' era and challenge the global market.
"The unique 'earnestness' of trot is a powerful weapon that can transcend language and touch the universal emotions of people around the world."
