Korean Film 'The King' Surpasses 15 Million Viewers

The movie 'The King and the Man' surpassed 15.1 million viewers, maintaining its number one spot at the box office. According to the Korean Film Council's Integrated Network of Admissions, it drew 72,421 viewers on the 26th, bringing its cumulative audience to 15,104,062.

With this, 'The King and the Man' became the 34th film in history to surpass 10 million viewers on the 6th, and has now become the third highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing 'Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds' (2017, 14.41 million viewers). The highest-grossing film of all time is 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' (2014, 17.61 million viewers), and the second is 'Extreme Job' (2019, 16.26 million viewers).

The movie 'The King and the Man' tells the story of a village chief who volunteers for exile to revitalize his village, and a young former king who was exiled after being overthrown, set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457. Actors Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do star in the film.

Meanwhile, the second spot at the box office was taken by the sci-fi film 'Project Hail Mary', starring Ryan Gosling, which drew 41,233 viewers in a day, bringing its cumulative audience to 758,816. This film depicts the journey of a protagonist who wakes up in space with amnesia and undertakes a mission to save humanity.

Third place went to the re-released animated film 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train', which added 4,450 viewers, reaching a cumulative audience of 5,712,715. Other films in the top five include 'The Protector' in fourth place and 'Hoopers' in fifth.
