Director Jang Hang-jun, Ten Million Countdown

The movie 'King and the Man' is continuing its box office success, surpassing 8.5 million cumulative viewers, and attention is focused on the new record the actors will set if they reach 10 million viewers.

According to the Korean Film Council's Integrated Network of Admissions by Film, 'King and the Man' mobilized 810,000 viewers on the previous day, March 1st, a public holiday, surpassing 8.48 million cumulative viewers. This is a 'reverse box office trend' where the film broke its own record for daily viewers in its fourth week of release, and the possibility of surpassing 10 million viewers by mid-month is predicted to be over 95%.

If 'King and the Man' reaches the 10 million mark, it will become the 34th film in Korean film history and the 25th Korean film to achieve 10 million viewers. This would be the first 10 million viewer film in approximately two years since 'The Roundup: Punishment' in 2024, and it is expected to revitalize the theater industry.

Notably, this film is significant as it is expected to be Director Jang Hang-jun's first film to reach 10 million viewers. As a historical drama, it would be the fourth historical film to achieve this record, following 'King and the Clown', 'Masquerade', and 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents'.

The actors' records are also noteworthy. Yoo Hae-jin, who plays the protagonist 'Eom Heung-do', will mark his fifth 10 million viewer film of his career.
