Kim Shin-young confesses to yo-yoing after losing 44kg

Comedian Kim Shin-young recently confessed that she is experiencing weight regain. On MBC Radio's "Jung Oh's Hope Song, Kim Shin-young," she said, "My appetite has returned. I feel at ease now. I have to eat everything I want." She had previously revealed her weight regain on the JTBC entertainment show "Knowing Bros," emphasizing, "It's not that if you lose weight and maintain it for about 10 years, it won't come back. It comes back right away."

Kim Shin-young attributed the weight regain to, "There's no change in my state of mind. I just thought I endured too much for the sake of eating delicious food, so I ate a little." She confessed, "I've fallen for chocolate cake and eat seven packs of ramen," recalling her past self who ate 64 servings of thinly sliced pork belly in 2003.

Along with this, comedian Hong Yun-hwa also revealed on her YouTube channel "Ni Mam Nae Mam" that although she lost 40kg in nine months, she has recently gained some weight back. Hong Yun-hwa recalled that her past body size was comparable to a compact car and said she started dieting due to a sense of crisis from her rapid weight gain.

Experts explain that the yo-yo effect is due to the body's "biological resistance" to return to its original state for survival. Sudden weight changes are perceived as an "emergency situation," leading to prolonged changes in appetite-related hormones. Excessive dietary restrictions lower basal metabolic rate and cause muscle breakdown, leading to a body type that gains weight more easily.

Recent research also points to "fat memory" as a cause of the yo-yo effect, where fat cells remember the past obese state. This genetic memory remains even after weight loss, causing fat cells to accumulate fat more rapidly.
