Han Ji-sang's appointment as an instructor at Sungkyunkwan University canceled

Sungkyunkwan University's Department of Acting and Arts has canceled the appointment of musical actor Han Ji-sang as an instructor. He was initially appointed as an instructor for a voice class in the first semester of 2026, but the decision was reversed due to student backlash and issues in the communication process.

The faculty explained that they were aware of Han Ji-sang's past sexual misconduct allegations, but decided to appoint him because he was not proven guilty of sexual assault by judicial authorities, had suffered significant harm over a long period, and they shared a concern about a culture where an entire life is ruined by a single mistake.

However, after the appointment was formalized, criticism arose on social media regarding an actor with ethical controversies teaching, and students protested by posting large-format notices. The faculty took responsibility for blocking communication with students by removing these notices without sufficient discussion.

The faculty of Sungkyunkwan University's Department of Acting and Arts stated that they will use this incident as an opportunity to establish more stringent standards and communication procedures on a regular basis to guarantee students' right to education and strive to create an educational environment where they feel safe.
