He began painting after being moved by an art museum during his studies in Russia, describing the ecstatic feeling at the time as "like 'Peppermint Candy' was pouring down on me." Park Shin-yang, who has also published three books, explained that he wrote the books because he was tired of explaining why he started painting. He recounted an experience where, after explaining his paintings for 9-10 hours to art professionals, he became emotional when they asked, "You didn't actually paint this, did you?" fueling the rumor of a ghostwriter.
Park Shin-yang revealed he is a "father like a friend" to his daughter, taking her on trips alone, and even painted for her. He expressed "satisfaction" when his daughter provides ideas for his paintings.
