In the drama, Chief Kim (So Ji-sub) was on a covert operation disguised as a North Korean People's Army officer. He expedited his discharge from the military by negotiating with his superiors to see his wife, who was in labor. After completing his mission, he barely managed to hold his child, but his wife passed away, leaving him with her dying wish: "Please live like all the fathers in the world who would do anything for their daughters." Chief Kim left the military, crying out to his superiors, "You promised me freedom if I completed this mission. If you break your promise this time, I will fight with the resolve to annihilate the entire unit."

Years later, tragedy struck Chief Kim, who was living as an ordinary father. He received the shocking news that his daughter, Minji, had died after being hit by a brick during a fight with the daughter of a construction company executive. The incident began when Minji got caught up in a dispute with delinquent students, and the masterminds behind it showed meticulous planning by offering a large sum of money for the disposal of the body.

Suspicious of his daughter's absence, Chief Kim began to track her whereabouts, even skipping work. He found the perpetrators and interrogated them. When one student made excuses, saying, "I only meant to scare her, but Minji dodged and hit her head on the stairs," Chief Kim's rage exploded. With nowhere left to retreat, Chief Kim returned to his ruthless persona as a former black ops agent and headed into the den of evil. He began his satisfying revenge by systematically taking down those involved in his daughter Minji's kidnapping and the cover-up of the incident.

Later, Chief Kim learned that the real culprit could be found through an anonymous chat room. Towards the delinquent students who showed no remorse within the bounds of the law, Chief Kim declared, "They call you an orphan if you lose your parents, and a widow if you lose your husband. But there is no word for a parent who loses a child. 'Juvenile offender' sounds good. Then I guess I should be called a 'lawless middle-aged man'," foreshadowing his bloody revenge.
