Im Seong-han's 'Doctor Shin' First Episode Shocking Development

Writer Im Seong-han's new drama, 'Doctor Shin,' opened with a shocking prelude in its first broadcast, depicting the beginning of a romance between genius doctor Shin Ju-shin and top actress Mo-mo, and Mo-mo's tragic accident. Additionally, the intertwined relationships of characters surrounding Mo-mo, including reporter Geum Ba-ra, Ha Yong-jung, and stylist Kim Jin-ju, sparked curiosity.

While Shin Ju-shin was focused on brain surgery, Mo-mo lost consciousness due to a scuba diving accident and was transported to the hospital. At the same time, Geum Ba-ra and Kim Jin-ju were shown reacting to the news of Mo-mo's accident.

The story then flips back six months before Mo-mo's accident, showing a flashback of Geum Ba-ra meeting Ha Yong-jung for an interview. Geum Ba-ra recalls Ji An-hee, who took care of her as a child, and Ha Yong-jung, but Ha Yong-jung does not recognize Geum Ba-ra. Meanwhile, Shin Ju-shin, smitten with Mo-mo from a drama, asks to meet her but is rejected.

Six months after Mo-mo's accident, Mo-mo's mother, Hyeon Ran-hee, proposes a "brain exchange" surgery to Shin Ju-shin, designating herself as the subject. Hyeon Ran-hee persuades Shin Ju-shin, saying, "You just need to transfer the brain to me," and ultimately, Shin Ju-shin begins the brain surgery, heightening anticipation for the next episode.

'Doctor Shin' increased viewer immersion with writer Phoebe's unique storytelling, unpredictable plot twists, and the actors' passionate performances. In particular, the cross-narrative structure moving between six months prior and the present, along with the delicate directing, stood out.
