Yoo Yeon-seok's 'The God of Music' Tops Charts

SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Doctor Lawyer' is solidifying its solo lead by showing an upward trend in viewership ratings. Viewers are responding enthusiastically to the "divine courtroom drama," which masterfully blends comedy and humanism with the fresh concept of a "lawyer who can see ghosts."

The 4th episode, aired on the 21st, renewed its own highest viewership rating with an average of 9.3% in the Seoul metropolitan area, showing an increase of nearly double compared to the first episode. The 2049 viewership rating also recorded a high of 3.34%, ranking first among all programs aired on Saturday. The drama is maintaining its buzz, topping Netflix's 'Today's Top 10 in South Korea' series category and ranking high in the drama and cast buzz rankings by Good Data Corporation's FUNdex for the third week of March.

At the heart of this box office success is Yoo Yeon-seok's versatile performance, which navigates between comedy and thriller. Yoo Yeon-seok delivers fun in every episode by portraying a variety of characters, such as a tough gangster when possessed by a ghost or an idol trainee performing IVE's 'LOVE DIVE' choreography.

Furthermore, the chemistry of the 'Shin-i-rangz' – Shin-i-rang, her brother-in-law Yoon Bong-soo (played by Jeon Seok-ho), and Father Mateo (played by Jung Seung-gil) – adds vitality to the drama. Elements that induce laughter, such as Yoon Bong-soo, who initially denied possession, now acknowledging it and greeting empty air, or Father Mateo, a former shaman, reacting to foods and songs preferred by ghosts, are praised for breathing life into the heavy courtroom genre.

Beyond simple laughter, the drama heightens immersion with its solid mystery narrative. In addition to investigating the unfair stories of the deceased, the reason Shin-i-rang can see ghosts and its connection to her father's death act as "major plot hooks," stimulating viewers' deductive instincts.
