Kim Eun-woo Scarecrow Violence Detective Interview

ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama 'Scarecrow' tells the story of a detective investigating a serial murder case who unexpectedly forms a partnership with someone he despises. The drama depicts the truth-seeking journey of two men entangled in a fated relationship and hatred, spanning 30 years from 1988 to 2019. It achieved a highest viewership rating of 8.1%, ranking as the second-highest rated drama in ENA's history and the highest-rated Monday-Tuesday drama of all time. Actor Kim Eun-woo played Detective Do Hyung-gu at Gangseong Police Station, adding tension to the drama with his rough speech, intimidating demeanor, and cowardly expressions, which sometimes evoked frustration from viewers.

Regarding Jeon Jae-hong, who played Jang Myeong-do, Kim Eun-woo said, "We were like a buddy cop duo. We were together in every scene. I felt comfortable approaching the character as if he were a colleague I'd known for a long time." He expressed his affection for senior actors like Park Hae-soo and Lee Hee-joon, stating, "From my perspective, I had to provide support, so I had no choice but to react immediately to their every glance and breath. The seniors actually watched what I was doing closely and gave me a lot of advice. I felt their great sense and consideration."

When asked about the most memorable scene in 'Scarecrow,' Kim Eun-woo chose the final ending scene. He said, "Tae-ju comes to the first birthday party and imagines a single day of happiness that we weren't given. That scene was very poignant. In a way, it's a very natural and everyday occurrence for some people, but when I thought about the pain of those who lived through that era, it was deeply moving." He added, "I think the reason our drama resonated was because the deduction and thrill that unfolded from the beginning to the middle part generated buzz. The story we wanted to tell is the reality that emerges in the latter half. I realized that today's viewers appreciate both quality and the message being conveyed."

Kim Eun-woo revealed that he had questioned his name, 'Eun-woo,' since high school. He said, "Many people see me for the first time. I have a profession that puts me in front of the public, and I find it contradictory that someone who seems like they should be in a novel, like 'Eun-woo,' would be associated with someone as sudden and tangible as metal, iron, or earth. I believe that as I gain more exposure, people will be more accepting of the association with my name."

Actor Ryu Hae-joon played Rookie Detective Park Dae-ho at Gangseong Police Station in 'Scarecrow,' showcasing the passion and innocence of a new detective, as well as the complex emotions of someone collapsing in the face of wrong choices. He said, "I didn't expect the results to be this good," but added that he felt the script was good on set and that he trusted that both the actors and staff were carefully preserving the essence of the work. He revealed that he realized the drama's success when viewers began intensely speculating about the real culprit.
