IU & Byun Woo Seok's Couple Chemistry Sparks K-Drama Buzz

MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama 'The Princess of the 21st Century' has teased a contract marriage romance between IU and Byun Woo-seok. The highlight reel released by the production team shows the couple's chemistry as they move towards marriage despite all opposition.

'The Princess of the 21st Century' is a romance drama set in a constitutional monarchy in 21st-century South Korea. It tells the story of Seong Hee-ju (played by IU), a chaebol heiress who has everything but is frustrated by her commoner status, and Grand Prince Lee An (played by Byun Woo-seok), the king's son who has nothing and is filled with sadness.

The drama depicts Seong Hee-ju's decision to enter into a contract marriage with Grand Prince Lee An, a member of the royal family, for social advancement. Meanwhile, Grand Prince Lee An is pressured to marry by Queen Dowager Yoon Yi-rang (played by Gong Seung-yeon) amidst suspicions that others are vying for the young king's throne. The couple's marriage faces a difficult journey due to Seong Hee-ju's commoner status and Grand Prince Lee An's position within the royal family, drawing unfavorable reactions from Prime Minister Min Jeong-woo (played by Noh Sang-hyun), Queen Dowager Yoon Yi-rang, royal relatives, and even the public.

However, despite public opposition, royal order, and threats against Seong Hee-ju, the two characters enjoy passionate escapades and show unwavering affection for each other. Seong Hee-ju's encouragement, "Don't bend, don't back down, don't yield," and Grand Prince Lee An's words, "It's for you," contain their sincere feelings for one another, raising expectations that their relationship, which began as a contract, will develop into love and trust. The drama is set to premiere on the 10th at 9:40 PM.

Actors IU and Byun Woo-seok boasted their chemistry at the production presentation for MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama 'The Princess of the 21st Century'. The two previously worked together on the drama 'Moon Lovers' 10 years ago. Byun Woo-seok stated, "It was great to be able to show our chemistry, which has continued for 10 years, for a long time in this project," and added that he was able to act comfortably and enjoyably on set thanks to IU.
