Song Geonhee & Seo JiHye Shine in 'Scarecrow 1988'

ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'Scarecrow' is heightening anticipation with its perfect recreation of the atmosphere of Gangseong Village in 1988, ahead of its premiere on the 20th. This drama is a crime investigation thriller about a detective chasing the real culprit of a serial murder case who unexpectedly begins to cooperate with a person he despises. It depicts the truth-seeking journey of two men entangled by a fated rivalry and hatred, spanning 30 years from 1988 to 2019. The work is based on a serial murder case considered one of Korea's worst unsolved long-term cases, and it plans to newly unfold the stories of the characters from that era even after the real culprit is revealed after 33 years.

The drama 'Scarecrow' has its quality enhanced by the collaboration of Director Park Jun-woo, who delivered genre thrills with works like 'Taxi Driver' and 'Crash Course in Romance', and Writer Lee Ji-hyun, who worked together on 'Taxi Driver'. Furthermore, the combination of actors optimized for genre dramas, including Park Hae-soo, Lee Hee-joon, and Kwak Sun-young, adds to the anticipation. The cast members who will portray their individual narratives and relationships in the fictional village of 'Gangseong,' the main setting of the drama, are also impressive.

In the released still cuts, the actors have perfectly captured the emotions and atmosphere of 1988, as if they stepped right out of Gangseong in that era. Lee Ki-beom, played by Song Geon-hee, and Kang Soon-young, played by Seo Ji-hye, appear as a couple gazing at each other with affectionate eyes. The two, who grew up in the same neighborhood and even promised marriage, face great adversity when they get caught up in a serial murder case. Song Geon-hee plays the responsible young man Lee Ki-beom, and Seo Ji-hye plays Kang Soon-young, an elementary school teacher with a calm and firm disposition. Jung Moon-sung transforms into Lee Ki-hwan, the older brother of Lee Ki-beom and owner of the local bookstore, drawing attention. Also captured are the comfortable and joyful moments of Kang Tae-joo (played by Park Hae-soo) and Seo Ji-won (played by Kwak Sun-young), who are elementary school classmates and hometown friends reuniting after a long time.

In other photos, Gangseong Police Station's 'Gang of Four' Kim Man-choon (played by Baek Hyun-jin), Jang Myung-do (played by Jeon Jae-hong), Do Hyung-gu (played by Kim Eun-woo), and Park Dae-ho (played by Ryu Hae-jun) are seen examining case files with Kang Tae-joo. These are the police officers fiercely investigating to catch the real culprit of the serial murder case that shook Gangseong, and they are expected to heighten the drama's immersion by presenting distinct personalities and tension. Baek Hyun-jin exudes an unrivaled presence as Chief Kim Man-choon, possessing both skill and experience, serving as a pillar of support for Kang Tae-joo. In contrast, Jang Myung-do and Do Hyung-gu, played by Jeon Jae-hong and Kim Eun-woo, are corrupt police officers who confront and clash with Kang Tae-joo. Ryu Hae-jun takes on the role of Park Dae-ho, the youngest detective at the Gangseong Police Station, who, though clumsy, follows Kang Tae-joo and navigates the investigation scenes.

ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'Scarecrow' will premiere on Monday, April 20th at 10 PM on ENA, and will also be available for viewing on KT Genie TV and TVING.
