Singer Ok Hui has passed away at the age of 73 after battling kidney cancer. Her funeral procession took place on the morning of the 24th at the Asan Medical Center Funeral Hall in Seoul, with a memorial service organized by the Korea Singers Association held at 10 AM. The memorial service was conducted in a Christian worship format according to the deceased's wishes, and Park Sang-chul, president of the Korea Singers Association, read the eulogy.

Born in Busan in 1953, Ok Hui debuted in 1968 as the leader of the girl group Seoul Sisters. She transitioned to a solo career in 1974 and gained immense popularity with the release of "I Don't Know." She subsequently released hit songs such as "Speak Only With Your Eyes" and "Neighborly Friend," establishing herself as a representative singer of the 1970s. Ok Hui is recognized as a pioneer who showcased K-pop's potential by performing on overseas stages despite the challenging environment of the time.

Ok Hui suspended her entertainment activities after marrying boxer Hong Soo-hwan in 1985. Although she went through the pain of divorce, the couple reunited in 1995. They have one son and one daughter. In 2000, they released an album together and performed at charity concerts, demonstrating their enduring marital affection. Hong Soo-hwan is reported to have stayed by his wife's side and diligently cared for her during her illness.

Ok Hui returned to her singing career in 2003 but was diagnosed with kidney cancer in February 2025. Despite her illness, she continued to pursue her passion for music, releasing new songs. She passed away on the afternoon of June 20, 2026, in the hospice ward of a hospital in Suwon, surrounded by her family.

At the memorial service, Park Sang-chul, president of the Korea Singers Association, stated, "We stand here today with deep sorrow and condolences as we bid farewell to singer Ok Hui, a precious star in the music industry." He added, "Her beautiful voice, outstanding vocal talent, and passionate dedication to her music left a profound resonance in the hearts of many."
