Jeon Soyoung's First Lead Role in 'Girigo'

Despite being in her second year since her debut, rookie actress Jeon So-young has made a strong impression on the public by taking on her first leading role in the Netflix series 'Girigo' and showcasing her solid acting skills.

Released on the 24th of last month, 'Girigo' tells the story of high school students who are warned of their impending deaths by a curse from an app that grants wishes, and their desperate struggle to escape it. Jeon So-young plays Se-a, a promising track and field athlete, and 'Girigo' is currently achieving good results, ranking fourth on Netflix's Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows.

For 'Girigo', Jeon So-young did not shy away from physical transformations, including a short haircut, track and field training, and tanning, as well as gaining 11kg for the character. Viewers praised her, saying, "She's stable even as a rookie," "She captured the freshness of a high school student well," and "Her acting is so good." Despite it being her first leading role, she was praised for her dense portrayal of the character and for anchoring the drama. In an interview, Jeon So-young shared her feelings, saying, "I felt pressure, but I was more excited because I was working with actors who are my peers and seniors."

Jeon So-young, who debuted in the 2025 KBS drama 'Kick Kick Kick Kick', has built her filmography through various works such as MBC's 'Bunny and Brothers' and ENA's 'Honor: The Legal Affairs of the Ladies'. Her acting skills, honed across diverse genres, are said to have shone in 'Girigo'. For her next project, she has chosen the TVING original 'The Legendary Cook', set to be released on the 11th, and plans to continue her active career with appearances in tvN's 'Retired Agents + Management Team' and TVING's 'Study Group Season 2'.
