K-Drama Stars Gu Gyo-seon, Ko Youn-jung, Gu Won's Story

In the JTBC weekend drama "Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness" (hereafter "Everyone"), Hwang Dong-man (Koo Gyo-hwan) and Byun Eun-a (Go Youn-jung) are gaining viewers' empathy by showcasing a "green light cross" solidarity where they fill each other's voids. The drama has proven its popularity by ranking first in the "Korea TOP 10 Shows" category on Netflix's official site, Tudum.

Hwang Dong-man battles constant anxiety, plagued by the voice that says, "You have no value," whenever silence falls. He feels 'anxiety' when he is among people who don't welcome him, and even when he tries to overcome it by laughing and chatting, his emotion watch only shows 'boredom.' In particular, the 'hunger' that came after being insulted by Choi Dong-hyun (Choi Won-young), the CEO of Choi Film, further highlighted his deficiency. His attempt to fill the void of a dream unfulfilled for 20 years with food is akin to a desperate struggle to mend a hole in his heart. He desperately longs for 'peace' where he is not anxious, and anticipation is building as to whether Byun Eun-a, who displayed the first 'green light' on his emotion watch in his life, can also provide him with 'peace.'

Byun Eun-a suffers nosebleeds in situations of extreme stress, and at these times, her emotion watch displays 'unknown' along with emotional patterns such as anger, despair, frustration, sadness, and longing. These emotions stem from her mother, who left her with an 'X mark.' Although her parents left home one after another when she was nine, the overwhelming feeling of having to endure it alone, fearing that her abandonment would be discovered, made the word 'mother' feel like an exaggerated modifier to Byun Eun-a.

However, when Byun Eun-a is next to Hwang Dong-man, her chronic pain magically subsides. The nosebleeds that erupted after excruciating pain that felt like her whole body was tearing apart disappear as if 'smoothly' melting away in his presence, and 'relief' fills the void. Since emotions cannot be changed by will, moments like Hwang Dong-man trying to turn it into 'the happiness of breaking a record' by sprinting together through a children's safety zone, or comforting Byun Eun-a when she had a nosebleed by telling her 'how to deal with scissors,' were significant. The salvation narrative of the two, who become each other's only 'relief' and 'peace' by transparently sharing their deepest vulnerabilities, is highly anticipated.
