Yoo Yeon-seok's 'Dr. Romantic 3' Ends, Global Fan Frenzy

SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'Doctor Lawyer' is down to its final two episodes. The drama, which features lawyer Shin Eu-ha (played by Yoo Yeon-seok), who can see ghosts, resolving the injustices of the deceased in court, is concluding with a value beyond its ratings.

The drama captivated viewers by adding the unique element of 'possession' to a familiar legal procedural structure. In particular, the scene where Shin Eu-ha, possessed by the ghost of an idol trainee, dances to Ive's 'Love Dive' became a major talking point, and the drama recorded 10% viewership ratings within just six episodes. Although ratings declined from episode 9 due to the emergence of competing shows, it was praised for "holding its own" by maintaining its numbers without significant drops for six consecutive episodes.

It also showed strength in the OTT market. On Netflix, it debuted at 7th place on the Global Top 10 TV Shows (Non-English) list in its first week of release, successfully charting in the top 10 for five consecutive weeks. It also maintained 4th place on the 'Today's Top 10 Series in South Korea' list.

The drama's strategy in the latter half increased viewer immersion. After building the parent-child relationship through an episode about a serial child abduction case, it delved into the truth behind the death of Shin Eu-ha's father, Shin Ki-jung (played by Choi Won-young), tying up loose ends that were hinted at from the first episode.

In this process, Yoo Yeon-seok delivered an outstanding emotional performance, portraying a son who chooses to believe his father, who is being framed as a 'corrupt prosecutor.' Alongside his technical skill in embodying the diverse characteristics of the deceased, he delicately depicted the emotional arc of Shin Eu-ha, who reflects on his own wounds and grows through the stories of the deceased and their bereaved families.
