Scarecrow's 30-Year Guilt Story Revealed

ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'Scarecrow' is a crime investigation thriller that deals with a serial murder case from 30 years ago, focusing on "the people left behind after the real killer was revealed," rather than "the time when the killer was being chased." It depicts the truth-seeking journey of two men entangled by a fated connection and hatred, spanning 30 years from 1988 to 2019.

At the heart of the drama is detective Kang Tae-joo (played by Park Hae-soo). He lives with the guilt of not being able to protect the truth in the serial murder case from 30 years ago. The appearance of the real killer is less about reopening the case and more like "re-examining a long-buried past." Park Hae-soo mentioned that this project marks his return to the small screen after five years since 'Chimera' in 2021. He introduced Kang Tae-joo as "a friend like a stubborn rock, not someone with perfect justice, but one who strives, clashes, and gets hurt to see the case through to the end."

As 'Scarecrow' is based on the Hwaseong serial murders, regarding comparisons with the movie 'Memories of Murder,' Park Hae-soo drew a line, stating, "'Memories of Murder' is a story before the killer was caught, but our drama is about the story after the killer was caught." He called 'Memories of Murder' a masterpiece and revealed that he studied aspects of other senior actors' roles, such as Song Kang-ho's, that could help his character. Park Hae-soo and the other actors resolved "not to act in a way that feels forced," and added, "Please look forward to a feast of acting from the actors." The drama will premiere on the 20th at 10 PM on ENA.

ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama 'Scarecrow' kicked off its run as the No. 1 Monday-Tuesday drama, recording an average viewership rating of 2.9% and a peak of 3.3% in its first episode.
