Lee Hyori Recalls Father's Death, 4-Year Illness

Singer Lee Hyori is experiencing a father's death, and past songs and broadcasts where she mentioned her father are being re-examined. Lee Hyori shared her autobiographical story through the song "Barber Shop's Daughter" from her third album in 2008.

In the 2008 Mnet show "Off the Record, Hyori," Lee Hyori confessed her childhood embarrassment due to her father's barber shop and shared that her parents, who moved to the city to raise four children in the countryside, had only 500 won (approximately $0.40 USD) as their entire fortune at the time.

In the 2018 JTBC show "Hyori's Homestay," she spoke of memories of her father, who was a barber, while watching citizens who had been running businesses for decades. She expressed her past disappointment that her father always cut hair like he was cutting a man's hair, and added that she now cuts her husband's hair and he cuts hers.

In the 2022 tvN variety show "Canada Check-in," Lee Hyori shared news of her father's illness, expressing concern, "Dad must be in a lot of pain." She also shed tears while watching a video of herself with her father. An acquaintance shared, "When asked about Hyori as a child, her father said he was very proud," to which Lee Hyori replied, "Dad, you haven't forgotten me."

Lee Hyori's older sister garnered attention in 2023 by posting a photo on social media of her father and Lee Hyori walking together. Meanwhile, Lee Hyori's father, the late Lee Joong-gwang, passed away on the 12th. His wake was set up in Room 1 of the funeral hall at Chung-Ang University Hospital in Seoul. The funeral procession will be held at 7 AM on the 14th, and he will be laid to rest in the family graveyard in Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk.
