Park Mi-sun's Breast Cancer Battle: Husband Lee Bong-won in Tears

Broadcaster Park Mi-sun's battle with breast cancer has become known, and her husband, Lee Bong-won, was seen shedding tears as he recalled the time of her illness. In a preview for SBS's variety show "Same Bed, Different Dreams Season 2 - You Are My Destiny," Lee Bong-won was discussing his jjambbong (spicy seafood noodle soup) restaurant business with Kim Byung-hyun when he mentioned Park Mi-sun's health condition in response to a customer's question, revealing they had gone through a difficult time. He said, "My wife suddenly became unwell, so we went to the hospital together and underwent treatment," expressing his feelings of helplessness as he watched Park Mi-sun suffer.

Park Mi-sun was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 and has since halted all activities to focus on her treatment. Returning to the spotlight in November of last year on tvN's "You Quiz on the Block," Park Mi-sun spoke calmly about her condition, stating, "There are various types of breast cancer, and mine is a type for which I cannot use the word 'fully cured.' I'm living with the mindset that if it comes back, I'll just have surgery and treatment again."

Lee Bong-won had previously teared up when mentioning his wife on the final episode of JTBC's "Daegyeol! Pengbongpengbong." At the time, in response to Choi Yang-rak's question, Lee Bong-won choked up, saying, "Because she was sick, I couldn't be by her side when she needed me most." Wiping his tears with a tissue offered by the production crew, he added, "They say she's gotten much better. She'll be okay." He also commented on his own awkward way of expressing himself, saying, "I'm not good at taking care of people even when they're around. My expressions are clumsy, and whether I like it or not, I tend to be quiet and solitary. But I suppose it's enough if they know my heart, isn't it?"

On tvN's "You Quiz on the Block," Park Mi-sun revealed that she was able to endure her breast cancer treatment thanks to her husband Lee Bong-won's support. She recalled him saying, "It's okay, you'll get better. What if you can't work? I'm here for you," noting that his words, which she usually heard as a joke, sounded different this time. She was also moved when he registered his own card with the hospital instead of hers. Park Mi-sun, her voice trembling, expressed her gratitude and love to her daughter, son, and husband, adding that it felt like a long time since she had told her husband she loved him.

Park Mi-sun suspended her broadcasting activities earlier this year due to health issues and was reported to be undergoing treatment after an early diagnosis of breast cancer. Her agency, Cube Entertainment, stated, "It is difficult to confirm precise details due to personal medical information, but she is taking a break for health reasons." It is understood that Park Mi-sun's breast cancer was detected early, and there is a high possibility of a complete recovery with only radiation and medication treatment. She is currently focusing on treatment and rest, dividing her time between home and the hospital.
