Park Se Young Returns After 7 Years in New K-Drama

MBC's new daily drama 'Family Relations Certificate' is set to premiere on July 6th. This drama marks actress Park Se-young's return after 7 years, her first project back on MBC's prime time slot since the drama 'My Daughter, Geum Sa-wol,' which recorded a peak viewership rating of 34.9%. Park Se-young returns to MBC 7 years after 'Ruler-Master of the Mask' in 2019, and is expected to showcase her unique acting prowess and box office appeal with this new work.

The drama 'Family Relations Certificate' depicts the desperate survival story of a child branded as the cause of a family's ruin from the moment of birth, as she fights against the world's sharp prejudice and cruel fate to reclaim her own life. The production team stated, "We plan to unfold the process of conflict among characters entangled in birth secrets and ill-fated relationships, leading to a catastrophic climax, with a fast-paced narrative," heralding the birth of a well-made, passionate melodrama. The drama will consist of a total of 120 episodes.

The recently released main teaser video captivated viewers by portraying the tragic reality contrasting with the protagonist Na Jin-i's (Park Se-young) happy childhood. It begins with scenes of young Na Jin-i spending happy times with her mother, Na Se-ri (Han Go-eun), but soon hints at impending misfortune with adult Na Jin-i's narration, "I had absolutely no reason to be unhappy." When Na Jin-i, wearing a school uniform, has her birth secret revealed by her friend Do Do-hee (Park Sol-a), she suffers brutal school bullying, branded with the "daughter of an adulteress" scarlet letter. As her past nemesis, Do Do-hee, reappears before adult Na Jin-i, their ill-fated relationship is expected to deepen at the center of the narrative.

The drama also escalates the tangled conflicts of the surrounding characters to their peak. Noh Young-joo's (Im Ji-eun) son, Cha Seung-hyun (Seo Do-young), expresses bone-chilling rage, and Noh Young-joo also screams towards Na Se-ri and Cha Min-ki (Jeon No-min), foreshadowing an extreme catastrophe. As young Na Jin-i is rushed to the emergency room and Cha Min-ki stays by her side, the despairing line, "You shouldn't have been born," is overlaid, creating suffocating tension. In particular, Na Jin-i's gaze as she leaves the funeral home in mourning attire, accompanied by the powerful ending line, "I woke up to find myself the daughter of a criminal?", left a profound shock and lingering impression on the viewers.

Park Se-young returns to the screen approximately 4 years after her marriage, taking on the role of the protagonist Na Jin-i and standing at the center of a brutal coming-of-age story. In the released teaser video, Park Se-young left a deep impression with her narration, "From the moment I was born, I became a sin. Before my real name could even be called, the world was already calling me an illegitimate child." The image of adult Na Jin-i enduring the world's condemnation in a dark tunnel and moving towards the light at its end suggests that the drama will explore noble human growth beyond a simple revenge story.
