SBS's 'Tales of the Unexpected' will reveal the turbulent life of North Korean spy Shim Moon-gyu. He crossed borders for his family amidst the whirlwinds of the era, from being a prisoner of the Japanese army and Soviet army, to the Chinese Eighth Route Army, the North Korean Security Guard, and finally becoming a Republic of Korea Army HID agent.

In September 1955, Shim Moon-gyu, who had infiltrated North Korea undercover, was discovered during a mission but received no support from the South Korean headquarters. Instead, he was warned not to surrender to North Korea, as his young son was being held hostage. Later, Shim Moon-gyu received news that his 8-year-old son was undergoing spy training in South Korea. To prevent his son from living the same life, he became a spy and crossed over to South Korea. After confirming his son's safety, he risked his life and surrendered.

Shim Han-woon, Shim Moon-gyu's son, revealed on 'Tales of the Unexpected' that after 49 years of his father's disappearance, he received news of his death and sobbed, "Tears are pouring down. My father came because of me." His story friends were shocked and deeply saddened by his tragic life. Lee Gyu-han exclaimed in shock, "This is truly maddening," while Lee Elijah shed tears, saying, "It's so heartbreaking." Hong Soo-hyun also wept, calling Shim Moon-gyu's paternal love, which led him to cross borders risking his life for his son, "heartbreaking."
