Cho Yu-min was initially named in the squad for the Korean national football team led by coach Hong Myung-bo, but he sustained an injury during a friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago before the World Cup. A detailed examination revealed a partial tear of the origin of the plantar fascia in his right foot, resulting in an 8-week recovery period, and he was subsequently removed from the national team. This dashed his hopes of participating in the World Cup.
