Kang Yewon Denies Knowing Father's $11M Debt

Actress Kang Ye-won, after her father's passing, learned of his debt amounting to 1.1 billion won and showed a sense of responsibility by pledging to repay the owed salaries to the employees who worked with her father. This was revealed on the SBS entertainment program 'My Little Old Boy,' which aired on the 14th.

Following her father's death, Kang Ye-won visited his office to sort out his company affairs. She became teary-eyed looking at a family photo and a handwritten memo on his desk, and later met with employees who had worked with her father for a long time. The employees informed Kang Ye-won about her father's severe back injury from a traffic accident, which surprised her as she had never heard about it from him. They explained that her father had hidden the accident to ease his family's worries and prioritized the company even when he needed surgery.

Meanwhile, Kang Ye-won recently discovered her father's debt, estimated between 1 billion and 1.1 billion won. A lawyer explained that approximately 300 million won of this debt was already past its due date. Faced with this sudden situation, Kang Ye-won expressed her confusion, stating, "I only found out about the debt after he passed away." The possibility of renouncing inheritance was mentioned, but she found it difficult to make a decision due to the house, which held 30 years of family memories.

Separate from any legal obligations, Kang Ye-won expressed her intention to the employees who had worked with her father for a long time, saying, "I want to do as much as I can to repay the money that wasn't paid." She later handed over a portion of the owed salaries to the employees, weeping and saying, "​I will live my life repaying your kindness. I am so sorry and grateful." Her mother, watching this, expressed her sorrow, saying, "It seems like Ye-won is doing what I should have done."
