Pop Star, 40s, Admits Reckless Driving

Pop singer Britney Spears (44) pleaded guilty to charges of reckless driving related to drug use. On the 4th (local time), the Ventura County Superior Court in California ordered Spears to 1 year of probation and 3 months of substance abuse education. She was also sentenced to 1 day in jail and a $571 fine (approximately 840,000 Korean won), but the jail time was waived as she had already served one day at the time of her arrest. Spears' side admitted to the reckless driving charges related to drug or alcohol use, and her lawyer stated, "Everyone is satisfied with the conclusion."

Initially, the prosecution charged her with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol (DUI), but it appears a lighter charge was applied after a plea bargain. Spears was arrested by police on March 4th in Ventura County for driving at an unusually high speed, and at the time, police stated she was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, both the prosecution and the court remained tight-lipped about which specific drugs she had taken.
