Webtoon Artist Kian84 Donates $100K to Elderly

Entertainer Kian84 donated 100 million won in total, giving 1 million won to each of 100 elderly individuals who collect废纸 (waste paper). This donation was carried out with the help of the Seodaemun-gu Office and the Community Chest of Korea, targeting elderly individuals facing financial difficulties or falling into welfare blind spots. Kian84 personally shared the donation process in a video released on the YouTube channel 'Celeb In' with creator Joo Geung-jeong.

Kian84 has consistently performed good deeds in the past. In 2022, he donated the entire proceeds of his first solo exhibition, amounting to 87 million won, and has been supporting children in orphanages with a '100 Challenge,' donating 1 million won monthly. He has also continued to support children in need of educational opportunities. He revealed his motivation for donating, stating, "I feel more rewarded when I know where my donations are being used."

Regarding his particular interest in the elderly, Kian84 confessed, "Perhaps because I was raised by my grandmother, I feel a connection when I see elderly people." The video showed Kian84 personally visiting and conversing with the elderly individuals. One elderly person said, "It's hard to receive 1 million won in a lifetime," and expressed a desire to "eat ribs first." Kian84 responded, "Please eat well and stay healthy."

Through this donation, Kian84 conveyed his hope for more people to join in, stating, "Donating brings a sense of pride and fulfillment." Creator Joo Geung-jeong also shared her thoughts, saying, "It was a rewarding project, hearing the voices of the elderly who were happy."
