Yumi's Cells 3: Kim Go Eun, Kim Jae Won Romance Teased

Actress Kim Go-eun expressed her deep affection for the TVING original series 'Yumi's Cells 3'. Kim Go-eun said, "It's already my fifth year as Yumi," and mentioned that 'Yumi's Cells' opened the second chapter of her acting career. She stated that this project was her first leading role as a solo protagonist and held significant meaning as a series drama. Kim Go-eun added that she felt she was able to utilize the wisdom and know-how gained in her 20s in this work in her 30s.

'Yumi's Cells,' based on a webtoon of the same name, is a popular IP work by TVING that depicts the daily life and love stories of the protagonist Yumi (played by Kim Go-eun) from the perspective of the cells in her head. Season 3, returning after approximately four years, follows Season 1 in 2021 and Season 2 in 2022, and tells the story of Yumi, who has quit her job and become a famous writer. Kim Go-eun said that even though Yumi is successful, she hasn't changed much, stating, "Yumi is Yumi," and that people remain the same even as they age.

In this season, the male protagonist, Shin Soon-rok, a PD in the editorial department of Julli Literature, is played by actor Kim Jae-won. Shin Soon-rok is the final male protagonist of the series, following Goo Woong (Ahn Bo-hyun) in Season 1 and Yoo Babi (Park Jin-young) in Season 2, and is the character who will complete Yumi's romance. He has been greatly loved by fans of the original work. Kim Jae-won said, "It's an honor to join a project that has received so much love and attention," but honestly confessed, "It would be a lie to say I didn't feel burdened by taking on the role of Soon-rok, who was immensely loved and supported by fans of the original work."

Kim Jae-won revealed that he paid close attention to his hairstyle and glasses to increase his synchronization with Shin Soon-rok. He explained that he tried to create a contrast by appearing cool with his hair half-up and wearing glasses when working, and showing a puppy-like appearance with messy, curly hair at home. Furthermore, Kim Go-eun praised Kim Jae-won's chemistry with her, calling it "perfect," and mentioned that she watched the highlight reel with satisfaction, even as an actress.

The "cells", which gained popularity for their use of live-action 3D animation in the drama, the first of its kind in Korea, continue their active roles. Kim Go-eun drew laughter by choosing Shin Soon-rok's "lewd cell" as her favorite cell. Kim Jae-won also commented that while Soon-rok's reason cell is cute, his lewd cell is larger compared to other cells, adding, "You can look forward to the charm of a younger man."
