It also marks the fastest achievement of 1 million viewers for a horror genre film since 'Byeonsin' was released in 2019.

'Salmokji' is a horror film depicting the story of a film crew who head to a reservoir to investigate an unidentified figure captured on road view. The actual reservoir, 'Salmokji,' which serves as the backdrop for the movie, is also gaining attention as a haunted attraction after the film's release. In response, Yesan County and K-water are experiencing the film's popularity firsthand, producing parody videos and establishing safety measures such as nighttime closures.

Along with the movie's box office success, distributor Showbox's streak of consecutive hits is also drawing attention. Showbox began 2026 with 'If We Were' and is currently enjoying a long run with 'The King and the Man,' which surpassed 16.48 million viewers. Additionally, the film 'Gunchye' was invited to the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
