Korean Star Cha Jiyeon Tackles Jekyll & Hyde Role

Musical actress Cha Ji-yeon is expanding her activities after finishing as the runner-up in 'Hyunyeok Ga-wang 3' and has expressed a strong desire to take on the challenge of playing two roles in 'Jekyll & Hyde'.

On the recent broadcast of MBC's 'Radio Star', Cha Ji-yeon showcased her outstanding vocal abilities, receiving praise for "changing vocal cords" as she demonstrated various singing styles across musical theater, traditional Korean music, and trot. Through her appearance on 'Hyunyeok Ga-wang 3', she challenged herself in the new genre of trot, pushing beyond her limits, and stated, "It was an honor and I am grateful" regarding her runner-up result.

Furthermore, she is receiving positive reviews for her powerful presence in the musical 'Lempicka' as the character 'Rafaela', once again proving her status as a 'vocal god' with an a cappella performance. In variety shows, she has narrowed the gap with the public by showing her human side, including her daily life with her son.

Cha Ji-yeon has presented playing two roles in the musical 'Jekyll & Hyde' as a new goal as an actress, expressing her ambition, "​I want to be the first actress to do it." She vowed not to retire until she performs 'Jekyll & Hyde' and spontaneously sang the musical number 'This is the Moment'.

Meanwhile, in the first broadcast of '2026 Korea-Japan Ga-wang Jeon', Cha Ji-yeon took the stage barefoot, painted a whale with a brush, and sang Song Chang-sik's 'Whale Hunting', achieving first place with a perfect score of 100 points, the only one among both teams. Her overwhelming performance showcased the majesty of 'Cha Jang-gun' (General Cha).
