Ha Yunkyung Joins First Doctor

Actress Ha Yoon-kyung is joining director Hong Jong-chan's new Netflix series '​First Doctor'. Ha Yoon-kyung will play the role of Ki Eun-gyeol, a surgical resident, and is scheduled to begin filming soon. This marks her return to wearing a doctor's coat after her breakout role in 'Hospital Playlist', raising expectations.

'First Doctor' is a human medical drama that tells the story of a doctor with a strong sense of duty, Heo Ji-wan, who becomes the head of pediatrics at a provincial hospital due to an incident during his residency. The story unfolds as he returns to Yeonhee University. The drama is expected to warmly portray the dire reality of pediatric surgery facing closure due to declining birth rates and the stories of child patients and their families.

At the center of the drama is the role of Heo Ji-wan, played by acclaimed actress Jung Ryeo-won. She portrays a character who struggles to build a system to prevent the closure of the pediatric surgery department. Kim Moo-yeol is collaborating with director Hong Jong-chan for the third time, and Baek Hyun-jin plays the role of Son Sang-baek, the head of surgery who opposes Heo Ji-wan's actions.

Ki Eun-gyeol, played by Ha Yoon-kyung, is the top surgical resident, recognized for her abilities, and has a past connection with Heo Ji-wan. Initially, she rebels against Heo Ji-wan's system reforms but gradually opens her heart to his skills and sincerity as a doctor. Ha Yoon-kyung is expected to delicately portray Ki Eun-gyeol's complex emotions, which evolve from resentment and hatred to admiration and respect.

Ha Yoon-kyung received critical acclaim for her acting transformation in 'Undercover Miss Hong' in the first half of the year, and is expected to solidify her position as a 'hot actress' through her first leading role in the JTBC drama 'Apartment' this summer and 'The God of Noodles' to be broadcast in the second half of the year. After starting with 'Hospital Playlist', she has consistently grown through numerous works such as 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' and 'See You in My 19th Life'. Attention is focused on what kind of performance she will show in 'First Doctor', her first collaboration with director Hong Jong-chan.
