Actor Lee Jong-won has become a new box office guarantee in Chungmuro, breaking the record for Korean horror film box office success with the movie 'Salmokji'. After successfully debuting on the big screen based on his acting skills honed in dramas, he has hinted at a global trajectory by joining the new Netflix series 'Love Affair'.

The movie 'Salmokji', released on the 8th of last month, recorded a cumulative audience of 2,836,233 by the 5th, surpassing the record of 'Gonjiam' (2.67 million viewers) released in 2018 to take second place in Korean horror film box office success. This is also about 400,000 viewers shy of the highest box office record of 3.14 million viewers set by 'A Tale of Two Sisters' (2003), increasing the possibility of breaking the new record.

Lee Jong-won played the lead role of Gi-tae in 'Salmokji' and received praise for convincingly portraying a character who gets caught up in strange events while chasing an unknown entity in a road view heading towards a reservoir. In particular, the devoted emotional line revealed during his struggle to save his ex-girlfriend Soo-in (Kim Hye-yoon) served as the central axis of the narrative beyond simple horror.
