Wonderfuls' End-of-Century Clumsy Hero

The Netflix series "Wonderful World," set in the late 1990s, has been released. This work is a superhero comedy adventure about neighborhood residents who accidentally gain superpowers and protect the world from villains. It reunites director Yoo In-sik and actress Park Eun-bin, who previously worked together on the drama "Extraordinary Attorney Woo."

"Wonderful World" tells the story of Hae-seong City's official troublemakers, Chae-ni (Park Eun-bin), the unbearable Kyung-hoon (Choi Dae-hoon), and the gullible Robin (Lim Se-joo), who each gain teleportation, super-sticky goo, and super-strength, respectively, due to an unexpected incident. They take the skilled city official Woon-jung (Cha Eun-woo), who expertly uses his superpowers, as their master, completing the "Wonderful World" team of clumsy but warm-hearted superheroes.

The work shares similarities with existing superhero comedy genres, such as the movie "High Five" or the Netflix series "The Uncanny Counter," in its premise of somewhat flawed and clumsy characters gaining superpowers to form a team and face crises. Additionally, due to the large number of characters and the way each of their narratives unfolds, the initial pacing might feel a bit slow for viewers accustomed to rapid developments.

Nevertheless, the team chemistry created by Park Eun-bin, Choi Dae-hoon, Lim Se-joo, and Cha Eun-woo is a major highlight. The actors' performances and charm add a unique warm glow to what could have been a predictable growth narrative. Cha Eun-woo, who has been the subject of recent controversy, has a significant amount of screen time, but it is evaluated that it does not disrupt the flow of the drama.

The overall atmosphere of the work is comical and warm. Director Yoo In-sik stated, "I wanted to provide a thrilling and enjoyable experience, like a theme park attraction, from the moment you sit down." He added, "Unpredictable developments and unexpected heartwarming moments are the strengths of 'Wonderful World.'"
