Kim Geonwoo Hiatus: What's Next for Aldiwon?

Kim Geon-woo, a member of the 8-member boy group ALPHA DRIVE ONE (AD1), has halted his activities due to controversy over inappropriate remarks and behavior just three months after his debut. ALPHA DRIVE ONE is a group formed through Mnet's 'Boys Planet' and debuted on January 12th.

The controversy began with revelations that spread primarily through online communities and social media. The allegations stated that Kim Geon-woo cursed without realizing his microphone was on during the filming of 'Sudden 2 Days,' and that management personnel apologized and took follow-up actions on his behalf.

Initially, his agency, Wakeone, stated, "We are watching the spread of rumors that deviate from the truth with a heavy heart," and announced legal action against defamation, personal attacks, insults, slander, and the dissemination of baseless false information. However, the controversy escalated further with additional revelations that a staff member from another broadcast, driven by Kim Geon-woo's abusive behavior, had self-harmed while working at the company. Attention was particularly focused on Kim Geon-woo as he had previously faced suspicions of abusive behavior towards fellow trainees during his appearance on 'Boys Planet.'

Ultimately, on April 8th, Wakeone officially announced Kim Geon-woo's suspension of activities. The agency explained, "He expressed dissatisfaction with inappropriate language without realizing the microphone was on. While the remarks were not directed at a specific person and were made as if talking to himself, they were inappropriate under any circumstances," and apologized to the on-site staff.

Kim Geon-woo also apologized through a handwritten letter, stating, "I have caused concern and shown a disappointing image to many people with my immature words and actions." He expressed that he keenly realized the foolishness of his actions through this incident and vowed to act with responsibility at all times and strive to prevent recurrence.
