Paralympic Champ Kim Yunji Calls Out Prejudice
Nordic skiing national team athlete Kim Yun-ji pointed out preconceptions about her disability. Kim Yun-ji, who became the first South Korean to win five medals at a single Paralympic Games at the 2026 Milan Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Paralympics, had her day revealed on the 395th episode of the MBC entertainment show "Omniscient Interfering View."
Kim Yun-ji stated, "In my case, I have strength in my back, but I can't utilize it well," and added, "I've had a disability since birth. I was born with it."
When the MCs expressed admiration for her ability to manage daily life independently, Kim Yun-ji explained, "I'm not as inconvenienced as you might think; I've adapted." Lee Young-ja and Jun Hyun-moo agreed, saying, "It's us who think it would be inconvenient, that's the prejudice."
Born in 2006, Kim Yun-ji competed as a national representative at the 14th Milan Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Paralympics in 2026, winning two gold medals and three silver medals in Nordic skiing (biathlon and cross-country skiing). This marks the first time in Korean sports history that a single athlete has won five medals at a single Olympic or Paralympic Games, either summer or winter.
